Ziyi Wei

Ziyi Wei is an emerging international artist based in Naarm (Melbourne). Born in Guiyang, Guizhou, she navigates the intersection of Eastern and Western cultures, examining the complex relationship between the human psyche and material realities. Through the reconfiguration of mass-produced and traditionally crafted Chinese jewelry, Wei critiques the commodification and fetishization of identity and cultural heritage within a globalized context. Her multidisciplinary practice—encompassing sculpture, paintings, and moving images—explores the intersectional objectification of Asian women. Using ornaments and adornments as semiotic symbols, Wei investigates the tension between excessive desire and the natural body in contemporary society.
