This work begins from my personal memories and experience of spaces I have inhabited whilst studying in Melbourne. I made these works to describe the relief, loneliness and peacefulness of modern life. Instead of portraying these traits as characters, I picture interior spaces mixing reality with fantastical dreams.
The interior space becomes the manifestation of what can be perceived, experienced, and felt. It also reflects how people use, occupy, transform, and adapt to space. The contrast of light and dark, the ephemerality and interplay of light and shadow in a space can evoke different emotional experiences.
The digital drawing combines photography and painting, serving as a fusion of reality and virtuality. It allows one to weave reality with the virtual self, enjoying the different emotions and perceptions brought about by spending time in these spaces. The simple unified color selection and spatial layout both flattens these spaces, yet offers a sense of loneliness, calmness, and contemplation.
