Samuel Woodman
Words are slippery and ductile, easy yet awkward. I see my paintings as clear in a way language may never be. Ideas frozen in clarity, never to be fully read.
I paint diagrams, delineating systems by which we explain and become aware of the world, to understand my own introspection, to fathom the knowledge systems of the world and self. I hunger to make sense of the methods by which meaning is created. The work visualises a system of embedded meaning, taking the scientific, religious and philosophical and turning it into symbol, colour and form. Through this, I investigate what meaning is and make all things meaningful.
It feels paradoxical to write about my paintings, as they can articulate what I cannot.
