Rosanne Freak-Poli

I am here, now.

As a multi-media artist, I explore themes of social structures and human experiences. My work is often site-specific and often includes performance. I draw inspiration from Fluxus, hard-edge abstraction, and conceptual art. Through this, I have explored the embodiment of art as a lifestyle rather than art as a product. I am inspired by the theoretical discussions of Martin Creed’s questioning of “What is art?”, Mierle Laderman Ukeles’s re-contextualisation of routine activities as art in Maintenance Art Manifesto (1969), and Andrea Zittel’s work How to live? and What gives life meaning?. My work has been described as having variations between extreme exhalation to dark mortality, providing a comedic quality.
