Nina Taurian

Blurring, staining and obscuring - my paintings reference and translate found images. I stalk through familiar but distant streets via Google maps, accessing my own memory through foreign technology, searching for distortions in the fallible interface. The obfuscation of imagery mirrors psychological states of perceptual change, heightened moments of panic or dissociation. My subjects are relayed from personal experience to the viewer through multiple degrees of technological, spatial and temporal separation; further receding from clarity through my the layering of paint. The resulting paintings are veiled, toeing the line of abstraction, alluding to distant memories of adolescence.
