Michele Owen
My creative practice flows from an enduring interest in the ‘felt’ landscape and the profound effect immersion in it can have on our mental state.
This interest stems from living most of my life surrounded by nature in small rural communities. It is also influenced by having a lifetime fascination with the body-mind connection as a former dancer and remedial massage therapist.
I am primarily an expressive painter who also explores digital media and installation. My artwork is process driven and grounded in observation, emotional response and sensory perception. I make field notes and plein air works on location, often in the goldfields of Victoria and New South Wales, and these later inform studio works.
The entire process continues my honouring of the landscape and its role as an antidote to anxiety and in freeing our creativity. My intention is to develop creative works that are both transportive and transformative and engage the viewer to become present.
