Matthew Sze
My practice explores spirituality and religion through a personal lens. Growing up in a Buddhist and Taoist household, my art making has been influenced by these two cultures and has given me greater interest in other belief systems. My works showcase how language and culture interact and touch on topics such as religious syncretism and the importance of intersectionality. I utilise symbolism from historical religious art and different mediums, such as paper cutting, installation and drawing, to explore spiritual observations and practices.
