Livia Solar

Investigating the entanglements and tethers that invisibly bind people together, my work often unintentionally manifests itself as an ode to close family members as I attempt to unpack their existence in the world alongside mine. This work embraces the unknown, harnessing it to uncover and form an understanding of the relationships we harbour.

Driving my process is the untapped potential of medium, unlocked by the inadvertent gathering of materials through a series of refiguration and rummaging. Relinquishing some of my agency within the work, there is more room for momentary interpretation, where unrealised outcomes can materialise.

Vitally expressing itself as a conduit of memory, my work cements itself within the melancholy of suburban monotony, revealing truths about contemporary life.

Drawing the curtains closed, keeping out the light.
