Bitch Pics is a series of self-portraits exploring the intertwining trajectories of personal ambition and motherhood. Through the mode of fashion photography, the works focus on the body as a site of projection and illusion.
Inspired by pop culture, art, mythology, film and fashion cycles, this project explores how memory and association mediate our aesthetic preferences. What happens when the patterns of visual etiquette are disrupted?
For these works, I constructed outfits from regular household objects to explore the role of clothing on the body as an interface between the interior and external worlds. By transitioning operational domestic elements into fashion, I was interested in how connotation distorts and viewing hierarchy is determined.
How does the impression of glamour influence gendered social roles and the value of work? Does the appearance of the body change ideas of power?
