Hunter Smith
Images of surgical Endometriosis removals, the extraction of a heart for transplant and stills from Daft Punk’s Around the World video are assembled together alongside depictions of sculptural moulds, black holes, pearl producing oyster shells and ultrasounds. These works are representations of pain, pleasure and human ritual plucked from theatre, sci-fi, myth and industry. Appraising the abjection of the body and reproductive health, my practice proposes extraction as an expansive metaphor for the exploitation and creation of spaces through removal, dislocation, alienation and production.
