My practice explores the impossibility of gathering a sense of self by clinging onto the past. Imitami is a collection of paintings that oscillate between understanding and confusion. These paintings reference imagery from personal archives, along with recollected childhood memories and inherited stories. Throughout the repeated forms and limited information reflects a hazy memory of an impossible recollection of the past. Reading these is like deciphering pages of a diary or like trying to piece together a broken story, they examine the effects of loss on one’s identity.

Thinking of intergenerational trauma, repressed culture and fragmented connections, my work is an attempt to understand myself more through my history.
