Demi Kromidellis

Demi Kromidellis’ practice questions whether she is able to truly connect to the weight her ethnicity holds as a third generation Australian. Taking an archival approach into the investigations of the family archive, she focuses on the use of photographs, oral narratives, kitchenware, and handwritten text to explore these themes. The intricacies of the archive physically alongside its contents are re-photographed and enlarged through the darkroom process, these are then pieced together in attempt to make sense of the past lived experiences of her ancestors. Despite the generational effect of cultural customs and stories being lost as time progresses, Demi utilises the limited sources indicative of her Greek background to connect to her cultural identity. However, these fragmented realities of what life once was for her ancestors often lead to more questions than answers.
