Casper Cornwell-Bauer
My work focuses on man-made companions— from domesticated animal species, to robots, mobility aids, devotional items, and stuffed animals. Central to my practice are themes of cuteness, grotesquerie, and vulnerability, which I explore through their simultaneous presence in the human mind and body. My contradictory childhood beliefs in Christianity and Animism also influence my creations, fuelling my interest in angelic and alien speculative biologies.
How to be Less Lonely is an animated guide to incorporating empathetic beings into your life without ever making contact with another human. Exploring tragedy, familiarity, and comfort in my autistic childhood, the piece paints the portrait of a person consumed by their need for protection and company.
