Stretching the conventions of image-making outside of the flat pictorial plane, I employ the operations of sculpture into the field of photography to introduce a new sense of tangibility or materiality. My fabrication experience and enduring material curiosities inform the intimate investigations into the elements that I introduce to image. With these physical interventions probing common understanding and misunderstanding of material behaviours, processes and properties.
Where photographic and material interests intersect, my work draws energy from and attention to confrontations with the formal principles of surrounding architecture. With architectural and structural influence acting as a foundation in the synthesis of a dialectic between analogue photography and the materials of industry.
Working towards new articulations of these intertwined currents, my blended outcomes look to stretch the elasticity of combined fields into contemporary positions and expand the critical potential of the photographed image.
