Alaiya

I am a drag artist performing through photography, sewing, screen printing, and installation. My art practice examines social reproduction, editing, and transformation alongside the assembly of self (in identity, body, and presentation). House music blasts as my life is metamorphosed onto the runway. Nightmares, daydreams, the material manifestations of my objectives. I can be anything. I am continuously creating and recreating myself. Textiles, medication, surgery, body language, my relationships with others. I am inseparable from the garments and imagery I produce, imbued with and reflective of my labour, knowledges, flesh, imagination, design, desire. Yet I can also step out of them: I am not limited to appearing and existing as any one permutation.
